A while ago Microsoft commissioned Seinfeld for a $300 million dollar advertisement campaign to turn around the image of Windows Vista. These two commercials are the result. The ads where a direct response to the “Get a Mac” ads from Apple. What were they thinking? Let’s put some money in a good ad campaign and maybe our product will get more ‘hip’?! Crazy thought.
Anyway, the MS ads are out for a couple of months now and Apple already has a response to their response. Crazy world we live in :) You’ve got to check them out, those two new ads, because I think they are really funny. The ‘Mac vs PC‘ ads started in 2006 so the concept is starting to get quite dull, but Apple has made their last two ads very funny.
It doesn’t matter how cool a commercial is, I’d probably forget about it a half hour later. But some commercials make such an impression on me that I keep thinking about it for the rest of the day. Last weekend I saw the BMW commercial: Sunset blvd. I know, it’s all about lifestyle, but I think this commercial is brilliant. It’s about a cabrio – which I would never buy because I live in Belgium and although I don’t remember the model, the commercial is still in my mind.
I guess it’s the commercial’s concept and the music that I really like. You see people changing the street names from some famous cities in the world to “Sunset Boulevard”. The music is really nice too, but like the commercial itself, I can’t find it on the web. The music is blues-alike with lyrics like “keep on driving baby, we’re doing just fine, I don’t know where I’m going, but that’s just fine, …”. If anyone recognizes the song or finds the commercial anywhere on the web, let me know!! I couldn’t find it anywhere, except for these similar small commercials per city: Paris, New York, Shanghai, Berlin 1, Berlin 2, Rome.
[UPDATE] My dear honey musterd pie (herfstmensje) found the clip on youtube, I didn’t search very well (monday morning fever I guess). Check it out:
