I’ve had a Lomo LCA camera for about 5 years but sold it about a year ago. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot with it but it’s quite clear for me that I had to “upgrade”. With the LCA you have to anticipate the distance to your object to get a sharp picture, you can’t rely on the viewfinder to be accurate, and the vignetting might be cool but is not always. A lot of these things caused me to get a bit annoyed about it.
I wanted to frame the picture exactly like I wanted it to be, I wanted to control the focus and depth of field exactly as I wanted to be, etc. So I sold my LCA. Yesterday I bumped into a huge stack of pictures, all from within those 5 years of LCA pleasure. I’ve uploaded a couple of them on Flickr. For me it’s pure nostalgia :)
Replacement? Yes! I’ve found this lovely old Minolta on a second handed marked and bought it for 20 euros with three nice lenses (50mm f/1.2, 28mm f/2.8 and a 135mm f/2.8 lens) and a couple of accessories. It’s great! Manual focus, manual setup, manual manual manual :) Last week in Paris, I found this cool little Lomo LCA key chain in the same shop where I bought my first LCA. They make a perfect match!
Seems like 1983 was a fine year. It’s the year of my birth, a famous radio station in Belgium began broadcasting, I hear it was a very good wine-year, Steve Jobs started Apple computer and at LOMO they sold their first LC-A camera. I started to do photography after I bought my first camera (an LC-A) at Colette in Paris. Since then, I have a different look at things, let’s call it the LOMO look.
After a few years I wanted more than just do some random hip-shot-photography. I wanted to play with depth of field, sharp edges, cropping, … I still loved the LOMO effect, but I guess I wanted to have full control. When someone asked me that he sold his Nikon D70 for a sharp price, I didn’t think twice… SOLD! A few weeks ago, my girl and I upgraded again to this fabulous Nikon D300. Damn fine machine! The high ISO, the quality, the grip, the weight… it’s (semi?) pro!
After all those years I’m a bit sad to say that I’m not using my LOMO LC-A any more. It has a nice place in our IKEA cabinet. But I’ll never forget the LOMO experience. Check here for some more recent photos I took (digital).
Zoooo cool… elke keer als ik kijk naar de foto’s die uit zo’n LOMO Horizon Perfect komen krijg ik de kriebels om ook zo’n ding te kopen. Maar dan eindigd dat altijd met een droevig gezicht – als ik nogmaals geconfronteerd wordt met de prijs (500 euro). Dan maar een blogpostje over de Horizon, wie weet steek ik nog mensen aan met “de Horizon gekte”.

Raar bakkie – enorm groot en waarschijnlijk pokke zwaar, maar super cool (vind ik). Als je ‘n foto neemt maakt de lens een bocht van 120° waardoor je enorm brede foto’s krijgt. Check enkele voorbeelden:
Heb je een LOMOLCA die niet meer werkt of iets mankeert? Weest geprezen! Want je kan nu via de LOMO Buyout 100 piggypoints krijgen voor je oude camera. Dat wil zeggen: 100 euro korting bij je volgende aankoop in de LOMO shop (online)… which is nice! Heb vorige week een refurbished LCA besteld voor bijna geen geld en hij is vandaag al aangekomen. Jay! Can’t wait for the pics :)
In 2005 kochten Anneleen en ik een Lomo LCA in de Parijse concept store Colette. Sindsdien zijn er heel wat filmrolletjes versleten, maar een tijdje geleden is er een einde gekomen aan deze wondermachine. De coole randeffecten, mooie kleuren en saturatie zal ik vanaf nu moeten photoshoppen, want onze Lomo is kapot. In de zomer van 2006 is hij gevallen waardoor hij een fatale slag heeft gekregen. Ik heb hem nog kunnen plakken met ducktape, maar nu is’t dus niet meer te fixen. Enkele kleine tandwieltjes in de ‘doorspoel-draai-knop’ (?) doen hun werk niet meer goed waardoor je op een filmrolletje van 24 foto’s eigenlijk maar 5 foto’s kan trekken. Niet 100% kapot dus, maar ‘t zou gewoon te duur worden om hem nog te gebruiken…
Een horizon lijkt me ook wel leuk, maar dat kost weer (veel) geld, dus zit er niet in voorlopig. Da’s ook mega groot en dus helemaal niet praktisch om een keertje mee op citytrip te nemen (denk ik).
Echt jammer eigenlijk, want ik heb toch enkele mooie foto’s getrokken (vind ik van mezelf). Check alle lomofoto’s op m’n lomohomes webstek, of klik op ‘lees meer‘ om enkele van mijn favorieten te bekijken.
