This months issue of the great .net magazine has just arrived in the mail. It includes one of our latest projects: Protect 7-7 by Wim Tellier is site of the month.

Our latest project at These Days is really cool. It’s a huge project by Antwerp based photographer/artist Wim Tellier. Check it out at: www.protect77.com!

Some inside information about the project:
- 5 months
- about 2 months development
- 6 psb files (Photoshop large document format), about 16 Gb each, in total 30000m²
- used After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Premiere and Dreamweaver to the limit
- photos from children from all over the world (6 continents)
- development in AS3, Javascript, .NET, Fluorine (PureMVC framework)
- monster prints by PPP in high resolution
- full screen H264 video
- expositions in Antarctica, Antwerp and New York

I don’t blog often about my work at These Days, but the new Pioneer site deserves to be noticed. Last week, Pioneer launched their new European website: www.pioneer.eu. I really love the design and the structure of the site, the javascript effects just add to the cool form-factor of the brand and the website. I did some css but mainly did the javascripts. I used Prototype and Scriptaculous because I can count on it and the behaviours in different browsers but mainly because I’m not as familiar with jQuery as I am with Prototype. I’m glad to say that These Days (place I work) has a new site. It’s a temporary site, but definitely much better than it’s predecessor. Check out the showreel for an update of our projects.

Vandaag was het MIX essentials in België. Tijdens de opening-keynote van Luc Van de Velde hebben Chris Vanderheyden (Emakina), Thomas Delplace (LBI), Jan Nikolaas Gijsen (Nascom) en ikzelf (These Days) een demo gegeven. Ik heb absoluut zero-nada-noppes-ervaring met zo’n demo, maar alles verliep (gelukkig) heel vlot.

Paul Dawson van Conchango had absoluut de leukste presentatie met zijn “Virgins, Spaceships & Total Experience Design”. Jawel, ik vond hem zelfs beter dan dé CEO van Microsoft, Steve Ballmer. Ik had te hard gehoopt op “the monkey dance“… het viel dus wat tegen :P Zelfs geen “developers, developers, developers“.

Het woord van de dag was dev-igner. Een combinatie van developer & designer. Ik heb ontdekt dat ik daar eigenlijk echt wel in pas, want ik ben opgegroeid in ‘t grafische. Ik heb me altijd meer gespecialiseerd in scripten en ontwikkelen dan designen – maar doe de beiden heel graag en liefst ook professioneel en degelijk. Dus lang leve de nieuwe term: DEV-IGNERS!

Op 24 April mag ik mee het podium op op de MIX essentials. Luc Van de Velde, van Microsoft Belgium vroeg 4 Belgische bureau’s om een demo te geven van de mogelijkheden van Silverlight en Microsoft Expression Blend. Aangezien These Days één van die bedrijven was en ik de Silverlight man ben daar (:P) ga ik dat dus met heel veel plezier doen. Dat wordt meteen mijn eerste on-stage ervaring voor ongeveer 500 man waar ik niet als dj voor de muziek zorg. Krijg al stres.

Wel een beetje weird dat ik eigenlijk een hard-core Apple fan ben, maar ik heb alle respect voor Microsoft :) Oh, en had ik gezegd dat Steve Ballmer daar ook zal spreken? LOL! Ben wel benieuwd om de man in levende lijve te zien.
